Faculty Excellence Award

This award is intended to recognize faculty of the Colleges of Sciences who have excelled in the area of teaching and in some combination of research and / or personal service.To be eligible for this award, a faculty member should be a highly valued teacher and an accomplished professional or one who demonstrates exceptional promise in his or her academic discipline.Particular evidence of high quality student-faculty interaction within and outside of the classroom should be in evidence.In addition, contributions such as publications, significant departmental, college and university academic leadership could be recognized as important elements to an individual's candidacy for the award.The faculty member should have completed a minimum of three years service at Old Dominion University at the time of the award.

Following the circulation of a memorandum of the above description of the award to all schools within the college nominations from students and faculty should be sent no later than March 15th to the Dean of the College of Sciences.

The Department Chairs will solicit appropriate Vita materials and letters of recommendation from Old Dominion University students and faculty as well as individuals external to the University.The Dean will be responsible for providing the documentation to the College's Promotion and Tenure committee.The chairperson of the promotion and tenure committee will submit the committee's selection of an individual from those nominated for the award to the Dean giving the rationale for the recommendation.The Dean will present the award at the College of Sciences' Award Day on Saturday, April 21, 2007.

The timetable for the award shall be as follows:

1.)The Dean will send a call for nominations to all faculty members and interest groups at the beginning of Spring Semester.This call will give an exact timetable for that academic year.

2.)The deadline for complete nomination packets will be approximately six weeks after the call for nominations. (March 15, 2007)

3.)The deadline for completion of recommendations by the school's promotion and tenure executive committees to the Dean shall be no later than April 7, 2007
